The Veterinary Technician program at Lower Columbia College is a comprehensive program designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel as valuable members of a veterinary healthcare team. The program typically lasts two years, culminating in an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. Students gain a thorough understanding of animal anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and surgical procedures. A significant emphasis is placed on hands-on clinical experience, with rotations at local veterinary practices allowing students to apply their classroom learning in real-world settings. Graduates are well-prepared to assist veterinarians in a wide range of tasks, including administering medications, monitoring anesthesia, performing laboratory tests, taking radiographs, and providing compassionate animal care. Upon graduation, students are eligible to take the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE), a critical step towards becoming a licensed veterinary technician and pursuing rewarding careers in veterinary clinics, animal hospitals, research facilities, and other animal-related industries.
