The Veterinary Technician program at Coastal Alabama Community College is designed to prepare students for a rewarding career as a vital member of the veterinary healthcare team. This program equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to assist veterinarians in providing comprehensive medical care to animals. Students can expect to learn about animal anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, surgical assisting, anesthesia, radiology, clinical laboratory procedures, and animal nursing. Graduates of the Veterinary Technician program are prepared to take the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE) and, upon successful completion, can become Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs). Career opportunities for RVTs include working in private veterinary practices, animal shelters, research facilities, zoos, and other animal-related industries. The program typically takes two years to complete, resulting in an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree.
