The Veterinary Technology Program at Delgado Community College is a comprehensive, five-semester Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) program designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel as veterinary technicians. This limited-enrollment program, with a new class starting each fall, emphasizes a blend of technical proficiency and strong interpersonal communication abilities, recognizing the importance of interacting effectively with pet owners. A key requirement is completing 50 hours of observation in a veterinary hospital to gain real-world exposure. The program is accredited by the AVMA-CVTEA, ensuring high standards and quality education. Upon graduation, students are well-prepared to take the VTNE. Moreover, an articulation agreement with Northwestern State University allows graduates to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a Veterinary Technology concentration online, providing further advancement opportunities. The program’s mission is to foster students’ personal responsibility for their education while instilling attitudes of excellence, teamwork, and professionalism.
