The Veterinary Technology program at Lansing Community College (LCC) prepares students for a rewarding career as a veterinary technician, an essential member of the veterinary healthcare team. This program typically spans two years, culminating in an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. Students gain a comprehensive understanding of animal health and disease through coursework in areas such as animal anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, surgical assisting, clinical pathology, radiology, anesthesia, dentistry, and animal nutrition. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning, providing students with practical skills in a simulated clinical environment and through externships at local veterinary clinics, shelters, and animal hospitals. Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE), the national licensing exam. Successful completion of the VTNE allows graduates to work as licensed veterinary technicians in a variety of settings, including private veterinary practices, research facilities, zoos, and animal shelters, playing a vital role in animal care and well-being. An AVMA-accredited program would mean it adheres to a high standard of learning, which gives the students a solid foundation upon graduation.
