The Veterinary Technician program at McLennan Community College prepares students for a rewarding career assisting veterinarians in providing quality medical care to animals. This comprehensive program typically takes two years to complete and leads to an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. Students gain extensive knowledge and skills in animal anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, surgical assisting, radiology, clinical pathology, and animal nursing. A significant portion of the curriculum is dedicated to hands-on clinical experience, allowing students to apply their knowledge in real-world veterinary settings, such as private practices, shelters, and potentially research facilities. McLennan Community College aims to equip students with the competencies necessary to excel as veterinary technicians, including proficiency in diagnostic testing, treatment administration, client communication, and animal handling. Graduates are eligible to sit for the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE) and, upon passing, become Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs), opening doors to diverse career opportunities in veterinary clinics, research laboratories, zoos, and other animal-related fields. Successful graduates play a vital role on the veterinary healthcare team.
