The Veterinary Technology program at Heartland Community College is designed to prepare students for rewarding careers as credentialed veterinary technicians. This comprehensive program typically takes two years to complete and provides a strong foundation in animal health and veterinary medicine. Students will learn essential skills in areas such as animal anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, surgical assisting, clinical laboratory procedures, radiology, and animal nursing. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning through laboratory exercises and clinical experiences, allowing students to apply their knowledge in real-world settings. These clinical experiences are often gained through partnerships with local veterinary clinics and animal care facilities. Graduates of the program are eligible to take the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE) and, upon successful completion, can become credentialed veterinary technicians (CVTs). Career opportunities for CVTs include working in veterinary clinics, animal hospitals, research laboratories, zoos, and animal shelters, providing essential support to veterinarians in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of animals.
