The Veterinary Technology program at Nash Community College prepares students for a rewarding career assisting veterinarians in providing comprehensive animal care. The curriculum typically spans two years, leading to an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. Students gain a strong foundation in animal anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, surgical assisting, diagnostic imaging (radiology), clinical laboratory procedures, and animal behavior. A significant component of the program involves hands-on training in a simulated veterinary environment and real-world clinical experiences through externships. Students learn to administer medications, perform dental cleanings, assist in surgeries, collect and analyze laboratory samples, and educate clients on animal health. Upon graduation, students are well-prepared to take the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE) and pursue careers as credentialed veterinary technicians in various settings, including private veterinary practices, animal shelters, research facilities, and zoos. The program emphasizes professionalism, ethical conduct, and compassionate care for animals, equipping graduates with the skills and knowledge to make a positive impact on animal health and well-being.
