The Veterinary Technician program at Lehigh Carbon Community College is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to assist veterinarians in a variety of settings. This comprehensive program typically takes two years to complete and awards an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. Students will learn about animal anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, surgical assisting, radiography, laboratory procedures, and client communication. A significant portion of the curriculum is dedicated to hands-on experience, which may include clinical rotations at local veterinary hospitals. The program aims to prepare students to sit for and pass the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE), a requirement for becoming a credentialed veterinary technician in many states. Upon graduation, students can pursue careers in veterinary clinics, animal hospitals, research facilities, zoos, and other animal-related fields, working alongside veterinarians to provide comprehensive medical care for animals. The program emphasizes not only technical skills but also the importance of compassionate and ethical animal care.
