Pierpont Community and Technical College’s Veterinary Technology, A.A.S. program is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary for a fulfilling career as a veterinary technician. Accredited by the AVMA, the program focuses on preparing students to become vital members of a veterinary health care team. Aspiring students gain a comprehensive understanding of animal health, disease, and welfare, and they are taught how to perform a variety of professional roles within a veterinary medical setting. Students will also need to complete 20 hours of clinical experience prior to applying to the program. The curriculum includes essential courses in clinical techniques, animal parasitology, microbiology, pharmacology, and health management of farm animals. It also provides preceptorships and applied clinical experience to enhance practical skills. Graduates are prepared to pursue diverse career paths in various settings, including small animal practices, biomedical research facilities, pharmaceutical companies, and government agencies.
