The Veterinary Technician program at Kiamichi Technology Center-McAlester is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to assist veterinarians in providing quality medical care to animals. The program is comprehensive and includes instruction in animal anatomy and physiology, clinical pathology, pharmacology, surgical assisting, radiology, dentistry, and animal nursing. Students will gain extensive hands-on experience through laboratory sessions and clinical externships at veterinary clinics and animal shelters in the McAlester area. Students can expect to learn how to perform a variety of tasks, including administering medications, collecting laboratory samples, assisting in surgery, taking radiographs, and providing nursing care to sick and injured animals. The program aims to equip graduates with the skills to confidently perform the tasks required of entry-level veterinary technicians. The curriculum is structured to prepare students to successfully pass the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE). Upon successful completion of the program and passing the VTNE, graduates will be prepared for exciting and rewarding careers as veterinary technicians in a variety of settings, including private practices, animal hospitals, research facilities, and zoos.
